Year 1 Class News

We’ve had a great start to Term 4 in Year 1.  We’ve been busy learning about dinosaurs and have been exploring this theme in our writing and literacy rotation lessons. In maths we have been learning about place value using tens and ones and playing maths games to consolidate this concept.  For health we have been exploring what is an emergency, how to dial triple zero and the importance of knowing our home address and phone number. In geography we’ve been learning about the weather and how it effects our lifestyle.  Well done Year 1s for all of your hard work!

Year 4 Class News

Parents beware! This term, your child may come home with a barrage of points to persuade you to cook something or to have a pet and back it up with researched topics on the positive effects of healthy eating, as we have covered persuasive, procedural and report writing in English.

In Health, we looked at being safe in Road Safety, Drug Awareness (Caffeine and Tobacco) and Media Classifications. Be prepared if your child says drinking coffee/coke while driving or watching non-child appropriate movies is a no-no. They might discuss home/school rules and laws as covered in our HASS lessons. Do ask them about some of the weird and obscure rules that still exist in Australia. They also used their creative talents to design a family crest.

We multiplied our mathematical knowledge through heaps of multiplication strategies, looked at calculating time and understanding graphs. After some research in Design and Technology, we can now tell you the process taken to get milk and honey from the farm to your plate at home. Here are some work samples.

This term in Year 3 we have been learning about the sacraments. In Week Five many of our students received their first Reconciliation. Year 2 Class News

The Year 2s have worked on Report writing. They wrote about koalas, dolphins, pandas and cheetahs and to wrap up the unit, they wrote a report on an animal of their choice using the ipad to produce a good copy. The Year 2s also worked on persuasive writing.  The students enjoyed writing convincing, well organised arguments for why they should have more screen time, why their dad is the best and what pet they should be allowed to have. They came up with some entertaining reasons for their positions.

In HASS, we have learned about our place in the world in relation to the Continents, Oceans and States of Australia.  We are also learning about the meaning of place names in Australia.

In STEM, the students have learned to write some simple code using the app Scratch Junior.

Year 2 RE News

In Religious Education, the Year 2s have been exploring the Sacrament of Penance and the forgiveness of others, through Jesus.  We began the unit with a focus on the many ways people work and their purpose for working, in the way God has intended through personal gifts.  The Year 2s have also explored the work that Jesus did, and that his main purpose for working was to draw people closer to God while forgiving those who had sinned.  Students talked about how they can use their own personal gifts to help love creation and look after their neighbours.

Year 5 Class News

In History, we have been learning about life in England in the 1780s and the journey and arrival of the First Fleet.  We have been exploring the reasons for England sending convicts to Australia and the events that led to this.

Did you know, that in Australia, you could be sentenced to life for stealing an apple?

Below are some of our sketches of what life may have looked like on a London Street during the 1780s.
