Year 6 RE News

In Year 6, we have been learning about the elements of the Eucharist.  When we celebrate the Eucharist at mass we recreate Jesus’ Last Supper.

Last term, we spent time researching saints and choosing our saint names for our Confirmation.

We created artwork to represent our chosen saints.

Year 5 Class News

In History, we have been learning about life in England in the 1780s and the journey and arrival of the First Fleet.  We have been exploring the reasons for England sending convicts to Australia and the events that led to this.

Did you know, that in Australia, you could be sentenced to life for stealing an apple?

Below are some of our sketches of what life may have looked like on a London Street during the 1780s.

Year 1 RE News

In Religious Education, the Year 1s have been learning about the Bible. We have been talking about New Testament Bible stories and have written and illustrated some reflections on them.

Last week was National Reconciliation Week. We talked about ways that we can appreciate other cultures. We looked at some Dreamtime stories to explain how many animals were created in the Aboriginal culture.

We have taken some pictures of our work.

Year 2 RE News

In Religion, the Year 2s have been exploring the concept of family. The people that make up their families, someone who knows and looks after them. The Year 2s talked about how Jesus also belonged to a family with Mary and Joseph. How Jesus began a special family, called the church and how it is a special holy place. Students talked about how God’s family can gather and pray together in a church.

Year 3 Class News

In Year 3, we have been working on improving our narrative writing.  We have been using our creativity to design characters and settings.  We plan for success by plotting our story on a narrative story graph.  Once all our planning is done, we write a story and make it interesting by using sizzling starts and tightening tension.  We know that we have to plan our exciting ending before we start writing. kate2

Year 5 RE News

In Religious Education, the Year 5s have been learning about virtues. A virtue is a habit of choosing what is good, and so includes the habit of doing right.

In Year 5, we have been learning that followers of Jesus find that they can develop the habit of making choices that are good by following these four virtues:

  • Prudence
  • Justice
  • Fortitude
  • Temperance

One of the virtues we discussed was temperance which is the ability to control oneself. People develop temperance when they learn to temper their thoughts and actions. One way we discussed that could help temper our thoughts and actions, would be to draw about how we are feeling. Here are some drawings that we did that express our emotions.

Year 6 Class News

What a busy term we have had!

We spent four days at Nanga Bush Camp.  We had great fun and learnt so much about ourselves, our peers and what it takes to be good leaders.  Although we were exhausted by the end of the camp, we thought another night would have been great.

We have been learning to surf or body board over the last few weeks. It has been so exciting going to Trigg, learning about the ocean and trying our hand at surfing or body boarding.

In our classrooms, we have been setting ourselves some goals, making some very cool art, working hard in Maths and English.  In HASS we’ve been learning about the Westminster System, the Magna Carta and the different roles of the Federal, State/Territory and Local Governments.  Recognising safe and unsafe situations and feelings has been a key part of our Health lessons.

We hope to see everyone in something orange tomorrow to celebrate the cultural diversity here at St Anthony’s and the wider community.
