Year 2 RE News

In Religion, the Year 2s have been looking at how we are all different.  We have talked about different places we can pray.  We read, wrote and drew pictures of the bible story of 'Jesus and the Children'.  The Year 2s explored ways in which Jesus treated everyone as being special.

Year 3 Class News

In Year 3, we are focusing on ways to be healthy and take care of the environment by growing some of our own food.  We are exploring what plants are best to grow in WA at this time of year, so that we can plant some vegetables in our school garden.  We are also looking to see if we have any space to grow a kitchen garden at home.  Next week, we will begin the March Munch challenge.  As part of this challenge we are striving to eat vegetables for Crunch and Sip.  Another key part of a healthy lifestyle is exercise, so we get out and do fitness a couple of times a week in addition to our Physical Education lessons.

Year 6 RE News

Welcome to Year 6 Religious Education news.  This term we are learning about vocations and how our human vocation is to serve as “God’s fellow workers.“ Jesus teaches us, his followers, to live his Gospel by our words and actions.  The basic teachings of Jesus are summarised in the two Great Commandments of Jesus.

‘Jesus said to him, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself.’ [Matthew 22:37-39]

We are also learning about the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  The Catechism is divided into four sections, called pillars:

  • The Profession of Faith – The Creed (What Catholics Believe)
  • The Celebration of the Christian Mystery – Liturgy and Sacraments (How Catholics Celebrate)
  • Life in Christ – Christian Morality (How Catholics Live)
  • Christian Prayer – A Personal Relationship with God (How Catholics Pray).

Year 5 Class News

It’s been a busy start to the year!  The children have settled in well to their new classes and have made a good start at being part of the upper primary.  This week we have taken on the role as leaders of the school, while the  Year 6s have been away on camp.

At the end of Term 1 we will be visiting Mater Dei College to participate in The Whadjuk Gift.  This is day that celebrates indigenous culture.  Whadjuk are the Noongar people of the Western Australian South West region. We have been split up into nations and have been researching the landforms and animals that are native to that nation.  We have voted on a design for our t-shirt, that we will wear on the day.  Below are the winning designs.

We’ve also started the term revising and refining our narrative writing skills, concentrating on making the starts to our stories sizzle!!!

Year 1 Class News

We have had plenty of fun in our early weeks of Year 1. Going to the library at lunch time has been a big highlight of the week as well as seeing our brothers and sisters during recess and lunch. We know where to line up after our breaks and we’re working extra hard at putting all of our belongings in the right places.  Most of all, we love seeing our friends after the long holidays!

Pre-Primary RE News

In Pre-Primary, we have been learning that God made us unique and special. We learnt that each person is special in their own way and we are all given a special name. We collaged the first letter of our name and decorated our names with glitter.

Year 3 RE News

In Religion we have been preparing for Christmas and learning about the man that prepared the way for Jesus, John the Baptist.  John is most famous for Baptising Jesus in the River Jordan, but did you know:

His parents were Zechariah and Elizabeth
He was Jesus’ cousin
He lived in the desert and ate grasshoppers
His message was one of forgiveness and the need to repent. To repent is to be sorry for doing wrong and try not to do it again.

Below are some of our art pieces of John the Baptist.

Year 6 Class News

It has been a very busy couple of weeks in Year 6!

We’ve been finishing off Mathematics, working on Christmas Craft, going on Squash excursions and helping the Year 5 students to learn about the ministries they will have in 2020. With only one week of school left, we are very excited about our final excursion to Trigg Beach, our Graduation Mass on Thursday evening and our last day of primary school!

Our time at St Anthony’s has been amazing, but we’re ready for the challenge of high school now 😉.

Year 5 Class News

Multiplication, Division and Transformations,
Being addressed by our Year 5 Mathematicians;
In Health we’re covering Food and Nutrition,
Soon we’ll vie for a leadership position.

In Religion we’re learning about our special gift from God,
Sharing it with others, we’ll receive a nod;
HASS takes us to the climate, vegetation and seas,
Of North and South America, we’re busy little bees.

Poetry writing will definitely be fun,
With words to rhyme or even a pun;
We’re eager as beavers over Similes and Metaphors,
Or Alliteration’s awesome anteaters on all fours.
Pop! Sizzle! Crash! in Onomatopoeia,
This will take us right to the end of the year.

Year 6 RE News

In Religious Education we have been learning about Human Sexuality. We all develop physically, emotionally, spiritually, intellectually and socially as we mature from childhood to adulthood.  This time between childhood and adulthood we call adolescence.  During adolescence each of us develops and changes at different rates and times.  Physical changes can vary greatly for us at this time. These changes remind us that God created each of us as a unique individual.
