Holy Week

Holy Week is the traditional name given to the week leading up to Easter.  It begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday.

On Wednesday morning, Kindy's to Year 6 reflected on the Stations of the Cross.  The Stations remind us of the sorrow that Jesus’ journey to the cross is celebrated, in the light of life and joy that comes with the Resurrection.

Kindy RE News

In Kindergarten this term, the students have been learning about the Colours of Our World and Easter. God’s wonderful creation is full of beautiful colours. We can admire them in flowers, nature and even in each other. We have created our own colourful insects with collage materials and painted flowers on our windows. We even had a go at designing our very own creatures! The Kindy classes planted petunia seedlings and were asked to predict what colours the flowers might become. We also discussed what they need to be able to grow successfully. When we read the Creation story from the Bible, we discovered how clever God is to make so many different creatures with so many features and colours.

The last weeks of term see us focusing on Easter. As it is the most important time of the year, we have looked into the special days of Holy Week and the real reason why we celebrate Easter Sunday. Even though it is so much fun having Easter egg hunts and eating lots of chocolate eggs, it is important for us to remember that Jesus died and rose again for us. As part of our learning, we have made beautiful class murals and displays that include many symbols of Easter, such as crosses, palm leaves and chalices.

All the staff and students of Kindy Gold and Kindy Blue wish everyone a blessed Easter and a joyful holiday break!

Year 4 Class News

This term, in Year 4, we have been working on a collaborative Civics and Technology project.  Students have to design a community with a consideration of factors that will keep citizens alive and also help them live together peacefully.  The Year Fours have learnt about the difference between rules and laws and the importance of laws in maintaining order.  They are now representing the worlds they have designed in Minecraft, to present them to others next week.

Year 2 Class News

In History the Year 2's have been learning about life in the past. We went on an excursion to Cockman House and experienced what life was like as an early settler in Wanneroo.

In Religion we have been learning about the importance of making good choices. We have identified some good choices that we have made.

In English we have been working hard on writing recounts. We are really good at writing sizzling starts to gain the reader's attention. We have been paying special attention to our handwriting and spelling.

Year 3 RE News

In Year 3 we have been talking about the different ways that people in communities can show love to one another, as Jesus taught. We explored the different ways that families and the local church can follow this commandment and these are some ideas that we came up with:

  • If someone is left out we go and talk to them
  • Show love by praying for others
  • Raising money for the poor
  • Helping when asked

In Year 3 we have been learning about the communities that Caritas supports and looking at the ways we can help others in need. As a class we have raised nearly $50 already for Project Compassion.

Year 5 RE News

This term we are looking at the units on the Church and Lent. In the unit on the Church, we learnt that there are four main communities; the family, the Church, the parish school and others (sporting groups/clubs). We also looked at how the church provides the community with leaders (priests) who have special roles and responsibilities such as providing the sacraments, consecrating mass and spreading God’s word. Below is a photo of our work on the Church unit and one of us working on the Lent unit.

Year 6 Class News

This week was the third and final surfing/bodyboarding session for the Year 6 classes. We all had a great time learning to surf and bodyboard and we learned a lot of important skills for staying safe at the beach, such as spotting rips and how to (not) get dumped by waves! Thanks to Mrs Shakespeare for organising this great experience for us. We bet there’ll be a few people from the Year 6 classes heading down to the beach regularly in the future.

As part of our History and Religious Education classes we have been looking at the many countries where our class families come from.  So far we have made aboriginal dot paintings, paper lanterns, fans and Persian carpets.  Well done Pre Primaries!

Year 4 RE News

In Year 4, we have been learning about the special prayer that Jesus gave us, the Our Father.  This prayer helps us to be closer to God and one another when we pray as a community.  At Mass, this prayer prepares people for receiving Holy Communion, because people pledge their forgiveness of others and ask God to forgive their sins. This opens people’s hearts to God and to caring for others.  We represented some of the special intentions expressed in the Our Father using iMovie.  Please scan this code to view what Callum and Marcus have created.
