Pre-Primary Class News

This week the Pre-Primary students cooked pancakes for Shrove Tuesday.  They also had a liturgy for Ash Wednesday with the Kindergarten students. The children were very reverent during the liturgy and participated in prayer through song. The children listened to stories about Jesus and how he cared for others.

“Yay,” mum and dad said as I was born. They named me Thomas.

On a sunny beautiful day I was born.  My mum was sooo happy that I was in the family. She hugged me so many times. – Lola

I screamed and cried as I came out of the tummy.  My mum was so, so happy. – Joshua

It was pitch black when I was born and I started screaming. – Charlie

It was cold and mum and dad were excited to see me. - CodyCraig1

YEAR 6 RE NEWS

In Year 6, we recognise that it is important for people to engage in a wide range of activities that are good for themselves, others, society and the environment. God created everyone with gifts and talents in order to contribute to God’s work. God plans that each person contributes in a unique way. One of the ways the Year 6’s contribute to God’s work is to look after the garden and the prayer space.

Year 5 Class News

The Year 5 classes have been busily learning about the Whadjuk Nations (Aboriginal groups in the South West) as part of our involvement in the Whadjuk Gift Celebration at Mater Dei College. Students were put into three nations, Pindjarup, Koreng and Njunga, where they researched flora, fauna and landforms common to their region. They then individually designed an art work which would represent their nation. From each nation, one design was selected, by a panel of St Anthony's School staff members to be printed onto a t-shirt to wear on the Whadjuk Gift day. The winning students and designs are shown below.

Koreng - Caoimhe Power

Pindjarup - Justine Aguinot

In Year 3, we have been learning about what makes us all special. We discussed what different talents and abilities we all have that make us special. Year 5 RE News

The Year 5 classes have just completed the unit called Relationships Restored. We learnt about Jesus, God and our conscience.  We watched a video clip titled Pinocchio and Jimny Cricket – Always Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide.

Our conscience is the feeling within us that urges us to do the right thing.  We spoke about our thoughts and discussed examples of times we did the right thing, times when Jesus did the right thing or did something good to help others.

We learnt about the First Rite of Reconciliation and Second Rite of Reconciliation.  The priest takes the place of God when we receive the Rite of Reconciliation.  The priest absolves us from our sins.  The most important words said by the priest in the Absolution are:

I absolve you from your sins,
in the name of the Father
       and of the Son
       and of the Holy Spirit

The priest can never repeat what has been told in Reconciliation, under any circumstance.   This means that he can’t repeat whatever is told to him to anyone, including parents, teachers, other priests.  This is called The Seal of Confession.

We recalled the Act of Contrition/Prayer of Sorrow.  This prayer is said after the priest has given us our penance.  Penance can be a prayer to say or a good act to perform.

Year 6 News

On Monday, eight Year 6 students participated in the City of Wanneroo Think Tank excursion. They joined representatives from a number of primary schools from the City of Wanneroo in imagining what Wanneroo could be like by 2050. Mayor Tracey Roberts spoke to the students about how she became interested in local government and challenged them to find ways to get involved in their community. The students prepared a slide show presentation about their vision for the future of Wanneroo and came up with some very interesting ideas. Well done to Keira Arneill, Sophie Clancy, Timothy Datta, Annmary George, Benjamin Mirshahi, Koby Ratajczak, Lachlan Swyny and Anya Vincent on their successful applications to go on this excursion.

Year 1 RE News

In Year 1, we have been learning about the importance of love and forgiveness.  We were able to show our love to our families during our recent Liturgy, with the help and guidance of Father Ben. We wrote prayers of love for all of our family members and gave these to parents in a ‘Bag of Love’.
