Pre-Primary Class News

The Pre-Primaries are currently attending swimming classes and are having plenty of fun developing confidence, swimming skills and learning about water safety. With summer just around the corner, pools and beaches will need to be on the lookout for this new bunch of swimmers who will soon get their swimming qualifications.  Well done Pre-Primaries. We are very proud of you!

Kindergarten RE News

In Kindergarten this term, we have three focus areas in Religious Education. We first looked at the “Church” and discovered that not only is it a building we go to to celebrate Mass, but it is also the name we give to God’s people. As members of God’s family, we should strive to live more like Jesus and treat others with kindness and fairness. We read the story of Jesus visiting the temple in Jerusalem where people were treating it like a marketplace and discussed why this made Jesus so upset.

This week, the Kindergarten students will be looking into the differences between living and non-living things. They will be looking through magazines for things that have been made by man and things that were created by God.

Finally, the last focus for the year will be Christmas. The Kindergarten students will be participating in many Christmas activities and, at the same time, will be discovering the true meaning of Christmas and its traditions.

Year 4 Class News

This week the Year 4s went on two excursions.  We went to Mater Dei for a Discovery Day where the students participated in science and mathematics activities.  The Year 4s had a fantastic time being on the campus with all the high school students and it was nice to see some of our past St Anthony’s students and how welcoming and well-mannered they are.  Our other excursion was to Tamala Park where we were able to take a bus down into the landfill site to see where all our general waste goes.  We also got to see some of the many options for recycling and reusing resources rather than sending them to landfill.  We learnt a lot of new things but were also able to participate well, because we already know so much about more sustainable ways to deal with waste.

Year 5 RE News

The Year 5 classes have just completed the unit called Nourishing Our Goodness. We learnt about Jesus’ courage, compassion, honesty and kindness, the last supper and the meaning of the gestures of the Mass.  We watched a video clip titled No Arms, No Legs, No Excuses.  This was an amazingly inspirational video.  We enjoyed the variety of activities we got to complete.  We would like to congratulate the Year 4 children on receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion.  Below are some photos of our work.

The Church and Community is the new unit of work we are learning about.  We will be learning about the Four Pillars of Faith, various communities and society and Jesus’ commandments.

Kindy Class News

This term, the Kindy students have been busy learning about life on the farm. After brainstorming what we already know about farms, we made a list of the things we would like to find out. As a result, we discovered different machinery that can be used and talked about the jobs farmers have to do to keep their farm running smoothly. We also learnt about farm animals and their jobs and found out that not all farms have animals. These farms grow fruits and vegetables on them. We are also looking forward to going to Landsdale Farm School for our very first excursion next week.

The Kindy students have continued to enjoy the various activities occurring within the Kindergarten program. A cubby house and a farmer’s market have been created by the students with lots of fun times had inside them. Each week, we visit the school library and listen to special stories. We also get to enjoy the games and fun activities that Mrs Moynihan provides for us. Hymn Singing on Fridays has also been something the students love going to. This Friday, we are all excited about showing off our fabulous costumes for Book Week to the rest of the school!

Year 1 RE News

This week in Religion we discussed that Jesus spent time learning just like us. We talked about Jesus staying at the temple to learn and discussed how this is similar to us staying at school to learn. We then identified different things that we have learned about.

Pre-Primary Class News

In Pre-Primary we have been learning about Australia and all the different fauna and flora that can be found in our great country. This week we were learning about kangaroos and thinking about what it would be like to have a pouch of our own.

“If I had a kangaroo pouch I would put cookies and chocolate inside.” - Skye

“If I had a kangaroo pouch I would put my baby brother inside.” - Liam C

“If I had a kangaroo pouch I would put my kitty in there.” - McKenzie

"If I had a kangaroo pouch I would put my bike in there.” - Samuel
